Infrastructure Engineer - Cabling - Data Centre Integration

RFQ 2024-0278 - DATA CENTRE INFRASTRUCTURE INSTALLATION ENGINEERING SUPPORT

 

Duties (Key Responsibilities):

The contractor will provide on-site support for the design, installation, optimization, and documentation of NATO’s data centre infrastructure, following Agile delivery in sprints.

1. Technical Support & Implementation

  • Design and optimize the physical layout of data centre infrastructure.

  • Install servers, network devices, racks, and power units.

  • Conduct equipment "rack and stack" operations and structured cabling.

2. Cable Management

  • Assess, reorganize, and document existing cabling.

  • Implement structured cabling and label all connections.

  • Use Patch Manager Software to track and manage cable routes.

3. System Integration & Documentation

  • Integrate new hardware with existing systems.

  • Maintain accurate network and equipment documentation.

4. Power & Cooling Optimization

  • Recommend improvements for energy efficiency and cooling systems.

5. Training & Handover

  • Train NATO staff on installation procedures, cabling best practices, and Patch Manager usage.

6. Reporting & Review

  • Participate in sprint planning and review meetings.

  • Submit written sprint completion reports.

  • Support monthly updates and coordination sessions with NCIA.

7. Quality Assurance

  • Maintain quality standards and ensure alignment with NATO operational and security requirements.


Deliverables (Per Sprint):

  • Infrastructure assessment reports

  • Cabling optimization plans

  • Standardized installation procedures

  • Patch Manager software integration

  • Installed and documented equipment/cabling

  • Final optimization report

  • Training materials and sessions


Requirements:

Security & Work Location

  • Clearance: Must hold valid NATO SECRET clearance.

  • Location: 100% onsite at SHAPE Mons, Belgium.

  • Work Hours:

    • Mon–Thu: 08:30–17:30

    • Fri: 08:30–15:30

Language

  • English fluency required.

Professional Experience (Mandatory)

  • 4 years in data centre environments.

  • 2 years in military/NATO settings.

  • Hands-on experience in:

    • Fibre/copper cabling (Cat5e–Cat7)

    • Rack and stack operations

    • Patch management tools (e.g., SolarWinds, ManageEngine)

    • Network testing tools (e.g., Fluke)

  • Knowledge of:

    • TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, OSPF, BGP

    • Power/cooling systems (UPS, PDUs, HVAC)

  • Experience managing data centre projects.

Certifications (Mandatory)

  • ITIL v4 Foundation

  • One of the following:

    • BICSI Technician

    • CNet CNCI

    • Equivalent cabling certification

Desirable Qualifications (Not Mandatory)

  • Fibre optic splicing experience

  • TIA/EIA data centre standards

  • Environmental monitoring knowledge

  • Data centre certifications (e.g., Uptime ATD, DCPro)
