Duties & Role:

The Database Administrator is responsible for ensuring the performance, availability, security, and lifecycle management of NATO database and BI platforms:

  1. Monitor performance of assigned database systems and define/implement measures to ensure optimal performance and high availability.

  2. Define database backup strategies and ensure valid, tested, and maintained recovery plans are in place.

  3. Define and implement upgrade strategies to keep database environments current.

  4. Manage, upgrade, and patch the BI stack, including:

    • Oracle Analytics

    • WebLogic

    • Apache

    • Tomcat

    • Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE)

    • Oracle Data Integrator (ODI)

    • Oracle Analytics Server (OAS)

  5. Select and implement appropriate database infrastructure configurations supporting business and technology architectures.

  6. Perform routine installation, reconfiguration, and backup of databases and related products in on-premises and cloud environments.

  7. Develop and configure tools to automate database administration tasks.

  8. Maintain database platforms up to date through structured upgrade strategies and software lifecycle (roadmap) management.

  9. Monitor performance statistics and produce regular technical and management reports.


Mandatory Skills, Knowledge & Experience:

  • Strong knowledge of database management systems, including Oracle, MySQL Server, and PostgreSQL, with sound experience in at least two.

  • Good understanding of MySQL High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions, such as:

    • MySQL InnoDB Cluster

    • MySQL InnoDB ReplicaSet

    • MySQL InnoDB ClusterSet

    • MySQL Replication

  • Good understanding of ORDS, Apache HTTP Server, and Tomcat administration.

  • Current, in-depth practical experience with modern operating systems:

    • Linux / UNIX

    • Microsoft Windows Server

  • Solid understanding of advanced High Availability and Disaster Recovery architectures, including:

    • Server clustering

    • Virtualized infrastructures
