 Duties & Responsibilities

The Interim Solution Architect will perform the following key duties:

1. Architecture Design & Documentation

  • Develop complete infrastructure and security architecture packages, including:

    • Logical and physical diagrams

    • Trust boundaries

    • Data flows

    • Responsibility mapping

  • Produce stakeholder-tailored architecture documentation for decision-making.

  • Record architecture review and decision records with rationale and approvals.

  • Maintain modular, data-centric architecture repositories with reusable components.

  • Ensure architecture data accuracy, completeness, and compliance with governance and audit standards.

2. Security Architecture & Risk Management

  • Define and map security controls to approved standards and requirements.

  • Maintain requirements traceability across business, functional, technical, and security domains.

  • Perform infrastructure risk assessments and threat modelling, including:

    • Threats and vulnerabilities

    • Risk ratings and impact assessments

    • Mitigation strategies

  • Develop threat-driven security models (prevention, detection, response).

  • Consolidate residual risks and document approved exceptions or compensating controls.

  • Provide security architecture effectiveness dashboards aligned with recognized standards.

3. Governance & Compliance

  • Deliver governance-compliant inputs to Design Authority reviews.

  • Assess compliance against standards and policies and document remediation actions.

  • Support ICT governance aligned with international best practices.

  • Represent CSU Brussels in governance bodies, working groups, and policy forums.

  • Contribute to the development and standardization of information security and risk management policies.

4. Enterprise Architecture & Modelling

  • Establish architecture modelling standards, procedures, roles, and approvals.

  • Configure and administer enterprise architecture platforms, templates, and viewpoints.

  • Develop ICT and security architecture models using recognized frameworks and tools.

  • Define and apply a consistent security taxonomy and ontology.

5. Stakeholder Engagement & Coordination

  • Provide advisory outputs, review comments, and resolution records.

  • Consult and coordinate with SMEs and IT teams.

  • Validate major architectural decisions with documented sign-off.

  • Provide timely architecture reports highlighting risks, dependencies, and impacts.

  • Ensure knowledge transfer, including user guides and training.

6. Strategic Alignment

  • Coordinate with NATO HQ entities to ensure architectural coherence.

  • Align with NATO Enterprise and Digital Transformation initiatives.

  • Evolve ICT and security architectures in response to changing business needs and cyber threats.


Essential Requirements

Education & Experience

  • University degree with 5 years of related experience
    OR

  • Higher Secondary Education with advanced vocational training/professional accreditation and 4 years of related experience.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in:

    • Construction-related ICT infrastructure implementation projects.

  • 3 years of applied knowledge of ICT and Security Architecture models in large organizations.

  • Experience within an ICT services organization managing modern ICT & Security systems.

  • Proven experience designing and deploying technology with business and security impact considerations.

  • Experience drafting clear and concise technical reports on complex ICT topics.

Technical Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of:

    • Current and emerging information systems and technologies

    • Security architecture principles

    • Infrastructure and operational impacts

  • Experience with enterprise and security architecture frameworks.

Certifications (Mandatory)

  • Enterprise Architecture Certification (e.g., The Open Group TOGAF Foundation)

  • AXELOS ITIL v4 Foundation certification


Desirable Qualifications

  • Full TOGAF certification (e.g., TOGAF 9 or 10 certified)

  • PRINCE2 Foundation (by AXELOS)

  • Working knowledge of Sparx Enterprise Architect and ArchiMate (formal training preferred)

  • Experience in:

    • Data Centre design

    • Infrastructure support systems

    • Network capacity planning

  • Experience developing and leading security architectures in highly classified environments, including active support of accreditation processes.

  • Prior experience in international environments with both military and civilian stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of NATO structures, including:

    • Allied Command Operations (ACO)

    • Allied Command Transformation (ACT)


Working Conditions

  • Full-time on-site in Brussels, Belgium.

  • Limited remote work (1 day per week).

  • Standard non-smoking office environment.

  • No travel required.

  • Required Security Clearance: NATO Secret.
