Key Duties

  • Identify and assess AI opportunities to improve space-based Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) operations.
  • Analyse geospatial and imagery data to support AI initiatives and operational decision-making.
  • Prepare, label, and manage datasets for AI assessments, demonstrations, and analytics.
  • Recommend improvements to data collection and data management processes for ISR.
  • Evaluate AI and analytics capabilities and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Research emerging AI technologies and identify applications for NATO ISR capabilities.
  • Develop and deliver monthly AI and geospatial data science training sessions.
  • Support AI demonstrations, Demo Days, and stakeholder engagements with technical and logistical expertise.
  • Collaborate across SHAPE J2 Capability Development and the NCIA Data & AI Centre of Excellence.

Requirements

Education

  • Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Alternatively, at least 3 years of highly relevant experience without a degree.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience applying AI to imagery or geospatial analysis in operational, government, defence, or industry environments.
  • Experience with AI/ML workflows, including data preparation, labelling, and processing of large imagery or geospatial datasets.
  • Experience delivering technical training and demonstrations to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Technical Skills

  • Python (including NumPy and Pandas).
  • TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • Data visualisation tools and techniques.

Knowledge & Competencies

  • Ability to develop rapid AI/ML prototypes and translate operational needs into technical solutions.
  • Knowledge of Responsible AI principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, creativity, flexibility, and adaptability.

Language & Security

  • Fluent Business English (written and spoken).
  • NATO Secret security clearance required.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time, primarily on-site in Mons, Belgium (SHAPE).
  • Occasional approved remote work within a NATO member nation.
  • Travel to NCIA The Hague, Brussels, and other NATO locations (up to nine trips), with regular meetings in Brussels (up to four times per month).
