NNGEM SW Engineer - Application Support

Duties & Role

In close coordination with the CIS Capability Service Delivery Manager, CSI Engineers, and development teams, the contractor shall support the deployment, hardening, administration, automation, and operational maintenance of the NNGEM/NUCOM application environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Linux Platform Administration & Hardening

• Provision, configure, and harden Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) host operating systems in accordance with NCIA security guidelines
• Perform security compliance checks and maintain hardened Linux environments
• Develop and maintain centralized patching infrastructure for RHEL host systems

2. Container Platform Deployment & Administration

• Deploy, configure, and maintain approved Container Orchestration Platforms and Container Management Platforms
• Support developers working with Red Hat UBI and containerized application components while ensuring compliance with NCIA security requirements
• Support deployment and lifecycle management of containerized applications in orchestrated and non-orchestrated environments

3. Automation & Scripting

• Develop and maintain host management and administrative automation scripts using:
  • Bash
  • sed/awk
  • Python
• Develop and maintain automation solutions using Ansible, including:
  • Playbooks
  • Deployment automation
  • Configuration management
  • Operational maintenance tasks

4. Application Deployment & Operational Support

• Deploy NUCOM/NNGEM applications according to approved installation procedures
• Deploy scheduled updates and releases (3 updates annually / every 4 months)
• Manage operational issues and incidents:
  • Resolve Level 2 support incidents
  • Escalate issues to Level 3 support when required
• Support troubleshooting, maintenance, and operational continuity of deployed systems

5. Documentation & Training

• Produce and maintain “As-Built” documentation using approved templates
• Develop technical documentation including:
  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Standard Operating Instructions (SOIs)
• Create training packages in PowerPoint format covering:
  • RHEL deployment procedures
  • Administration procedures
  • Maintenance activities
• Deliver on-the-job training sessions based on approved training materials

6. Review & Compliance Activities

• Review and provide recommendations regarding:
  • Security hardening procedures
  • Container management and orchestration procedures
  • Backup and restore procedures
  • NNGEM installation manuals
• Ensure operational environments remain compliant with NATO and NCIA security standards

Requirements Description

The contractor shall demonstrate strong expertise in Linux system administration, containerized application environments, automation, and secure platform management within enterprise or regulated ICT environments.

Skill, Knowledge & Experience

Technical Experience

• Comprehensive understanding of:
  • Computer and communication security principles
  • Networking concepts
  • Vulnerabilities of modern operating systems and applications
• Minimum 5 years of experience designing, developing, and managing Linux-based environments, specifically:
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
• Minimum 5 years of experience managing containerized applications in:
  • Orchestrated environments
  • Non-orchestrated environments

Automation & Scripting

• Proven experience developing host management and automation scripts using:
  • Bash
  • sed/awk
  • Python
• Proven experience developing and managing automation solutions using:
  • Ansible
  • Ansible playbooks
  • Infrastructure automation frameworks

Containerization & Platform Administration

• Hands-on experience deploying and administering:
  • Container orchestration platforms
  • Container management platforms
• Experience supporting Red Hat UBI-based application environments

Security & Compliance

• Hands-on experience performing security compliance checks on Linux-based systems
• Familiarity with secure system hardening practices and NCIA security guidelines

Documentation & Communication

• Experience creating and maintaining version-controlled technical documentation
• Very good spoken and written English skills, as all work and documentation are conducted in English

Preferred Certifications (Asset – Not Mandatory)

One or more of the following certifications will be considered an advantage:

• Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
• Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)
• Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration
• IT Trainer Certifications:
