Main duties

• Plan and coordinate delivery: Document proposed designs, deliverables and changes; guide them through NCIA and NCSC approval processes; and coordinate prerequisites with project managers, engineers, security architects, operational teams and other business lines.
• Deploy cyber capabilities: Install, configure and test network tapping and aggregation equipment; vulnerability tools such as Tenable.SC and Nessus; forensic tools such as Fidelis; monitoring and incident response tools such as Splunk; and supporting virtualisation and networking technologies.
• Secure and troubleshoot systems: Implement and validate security settings on Cisco and Juniper equipment and Linux and Microsoft systems. Investigate faults, errors and performance issues, then develop and implement improvements.
• Integrate and assure compliance: Fit cyber tools into existing and future NATO communications and information systems, ensuring solutions meet NATO security policies, operational needs and agreed technical standards.
• Complete handover: Test and validate deployments, support acceptance, train or transfer knowledge to operational teams, and produce implementation specifications, installation guides, configuration baselines, test reports, operating procedures and hardening guides. The role also includes technical advice and participation in reviews and meetings with NATO, national and industry stakeholders.

Required background

The candidate needs at least five years of practical, hands-on cyber security or related technical experience, with broad knowledge of security tools and their integration. This includes firewalls, network traffic aggregation, intrusion prevention and detection, data diodes, encryption, identity and access management, monitoring, incident response, vulnerability assessment, forensics and risk management.

Recent, relevant experience is sought with Juniper, Palo Alto, web application proxies, Splunk, Tenable.SC, Nessus and Fidelis, plus routing, switching and virtualisation such as VMware. The candidate should have delivered technical or cyber systems into operational environments, covering installation through handover, and be able to work independently while coordinating industry teams. Strong analytical, communication and English technical writing skills are required; English must meet NATO STANAG 6001 Level 3 or higher. NATO or national military project experience is desirable.

The education requirement is a relevant bachelor’s degree and three years of related experience. Exceptionally, a candidate without a degree may qualify through at least ten years of extensive, progressive experience relevant to the duties. The stated five-year hands-on experience requirement remains a separate role requirement.

Assignment conditions

Some remote work may be permitted with the specified approvals: up to 20% of total working time from another NATO nation, or work from home at the duty location under NCIA’s teleworking policy. Travel to Belgian NCIA sites and other NATO or mission locations may be required.
