Senior Technician (Electronics Maintenance)
Key Duties
- Operate and maintain Satellite Ground Station (SGS) equipment and associated communications systems.
- Perform field-level maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergency interventions on:
- Satellite communications equipment
- DLOS (Digital Line of Sight) links
- Fibre-optic terrestrial links
- Maintain station logs and report outages.
- Activate communication circuits according to work orders.
- Operate and maintain data networks supporting deployed NATO forces.
- Support training improvements by providing technical feedback to engineers and supervisors.
- Participate in On-the-Job Training (OJT) and continuous technical development.
- Support station operations and carry out additional tasks assigned by Station Command.

Strong practical experience with:
Satellite Ground Station Systems
- Antenna systems:
- Radomes
- Feed horns
- Reflectors
- Pedestals
- Waveguides
- Tracking receivers
- Servo and drive equipment
- Fault diagnosis and repair
Communications Equipment
- Up/down converters
- Low Noise Amplifiers (LNAs)
- High Power Amplifiers (HPAs)
- MODEMs
- Cryptographic equipment
- Routers and switches
Monitoring & Infrastructure
- Computer-assisted Monitor & Control Systems (M&CS)
- GPS-disciplined frequency reference systems
- Fibre-optic cabling and transmission systems
- Digital communications technologies
Additional Knowledge
- Testing and maintenance of modern communication systems
- Strong oral communication and briefing skills
Desirable Experience
- Digital network management:
- Performance management
- Fault management
- Security management
- Configuration management
- Packet-switched voice and data networks
- TCP/IP fundamentals
- Video transmission principles
- Telecommunications quality assurance
- Experience in multinational military/civilian environments
- Knowledge of NATO structures, especially:
- ACO (Allied Command Operations)
- ACT (Allied Command Transformation)
Education & Experience
Minimum:
- Higher vocational training in a relevant technical field (or equivalent)
OR
- Secondary education diploma plus relevant experience
Required Experience:
- At least 5 years in operation or maintenance of:
- Satellite Ground Stations/Terminals
- Radar systems
- Line-of-Sight communications systems
Language Requirements
- English: SLP 2222 (Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing)
- Host nation language required (Italian)
